What is a trace of protein caused from in childs urine?

my 7 yr old daughter was complaing of right side pain so i took her to the doctor and they said she had a trace of protein in her urine in which the doc is not concerned but i am. Does anyone know what it could be caused from. Does not drinking enough water cause this?
