Do mothers matter to kids?

Everyone knows that fatherless children may have alot of issues growing up. No matter how good their single mother was to them they always have daddy issues I always wondered what happens to people with fathers but not mothers. In other words does mothers love matter in a childs development. Do people need mothers for anything besides cooking and cleaning. Im not trying to be offensive at all.Im just curious
